Origin & meaning
Shelomith (or Shelomoth), a Levite of the family of Izhar.
The biblical story
Shelomith (or Shelomoth) was a Levite who belonged to the family of Izhar, son of Kohath. In 1Ch.23.18, he is listed as the first of the sons of Izhar. Later, in 1Ch.24.22, Shelomoth is mentioned twice as the head of the father's house of Izhar. This suggests that he was a prominent figure within the Izharite clan of the Levites during the time of King David's organization of the Levitical duties.
