These terms apply to your use of biblicalbabynames.org (the “site”), run by Biblical Baby Names Org. (“we”, “us”, “our”). By using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. What the site is

Biblical Baby Names is a free reference about names found in the Bible: their meanings, their original Hebrew and Greek forms, the people who bore them, the verses they appear in, and how often they are given today. You do not need an account to use it.

2. Information, not advice

Everything on the site is for general information. Please keep the following in mind.

  • Meanings and origins. The meaning of an ancient name is often uncertain, and scholars sometimes disagree. We say how well attested a meaning is and explain our methods on our How we research these pages page, but we cannot guarantee that any meaning or origin is correct.
  • Scripture and interpretation. Where a name has more than one sense in scripture, such as a person, a people and a place, separating them involves editorial judgment. The site does not represent the teaching of any church, synagogue or religious tradition.
  • Popularity figures. Usage statistics come from official sources such as the US Social Security Administration and national statistics offices. They may contain errors, may be revised, and exclude names given to fewer than a minimum number of children. “Below the reporting threshold” does not mean a name has never been used.
  • Whether a name can be registered. Where we show whether a name is accepted for birth registration in a particular country, this is based on published lists and may be out of date. Always confirm with the official registry before registering a birth.

Choosing a name is your decision. We are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of information on the site.

3. Accuracy and corrections

We work hard to keep the site accurate, but we provide it “as is” and cannot promise it is complete, current or free of errors. If you spot a mistake, please tell us at admin@biblicalbabynames.org . We welcome corrections and review every one.

4. Using the site fairly

You may browse, search, save names to your list and share links to any page. Please do not:

  • copy large parts of the site or its data, or republish them as your own
  • use automated tools to scrape, crawl or download the site in bulk, except search engines indexing it in the normal way
  • overload or interfere with the site or its tools, or try to get around the limits we place on them
  • try to gain access to parts of the site that are not public
  • use the site for anything unlawful

We may limit or block access for anyone who breaks these rules.

5. Content and copyright

The site’s text, design, name pages, research, and the way our information is selected and arranged belong to us, unless stated otherwise. You may quote short passages with a link back to the page they came from. For anything more, please ask us first.

Some information comes from other sources, and their own licences apply:

  • STEPBible (Tyndale House, Cambridge) and the BibleData project, used under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence
  • US Social Security Administration name records, which are public domain
  • national statistics and registry offices, including INE (Spain), IBGE (Brazil), datos.gob.ar (Argentina) and IRN (Portugal)
  • Bible verse text from KJV

“Biblical Baby Names” and our logo may not be used in a way that suggests we endorse you or your work.

6. Links to other websites

The site links to other websites, such as Wikipedia and Wikidata, and offers links for sharing pages on social media. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content or how they handle your information.

7. Comments (delete this section if comments are turned off)

If you post a comment, you are responsible for what you write. Comments must not be unlawful, abusive, misleading or promotional, and must not infringe anyone else’s rights. We may edit or remove any comment. By posting, you allow us to display your comment on the site.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the site available, but we may change, pause or withdraw any part of it at any time, including names, tools or features, without notice.

9. Our liability

The site is free, and we provide it without any promises or warranties beyond those the law requires. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using, or being unable to use, the site or its information.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited, or affects the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

10. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the updated terms apply.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of USA. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protections that your own country’s law gives you and that cannot be excluded.
