The biblical story
Tobijah is mentioned in 2Ch.17.8 as one of the Levites sent by King Jehoshaphat of Judah to teach the Book of the Law in the cities of Judah. He was part of a delegation that included other Levites, such as Shemaiah, Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, as well as the priests Elishama and Jehoram. This teaching mission was part of Jehoshaphat's reforms to strengthen the spiritual and moral foundation of his kingdom. The Levites were responsible for instructing the people in the Law of God and ensuring that they understood and followed its precepts.
